Sustainable + Eco-Friendly

Here at The Little Allotment Company, we are passionate about providing you with high quality, beautiful products that don’t negatively impact our environment. As a small business we are continually working and researching on how we can provide a positive impact in our approaches, alongside our kit contents, products and packaging. When curating the kits we like to select an additional product which can be used again such as collaborating with Burgon and Ball for The Spring Beginner Kit we carefully selected the hand trowel for its high quality and longevity which is suitable for all ages from 4 +.

All of our products including packaging are biodegradable, eco-friendly, recyclable and compostable. We collaborated with our printers in selecting the most eco- friendly materials for all aspects of print. The print elements in our kits has been selected to work in conjunction with The Woodland Trust and the Woodland Carbon Trust.

Why Coir?

Coir pellets are an excellent alternative, being peat free coir pellets we found these are a better option for the seeds to thrive in, whilst also being environmentally friendly. Our Coir pellets have been tried and tested and are easy to use with full instructions of how to begin growing your very own.

Top Tips

  • Your little seedlings need light, warmth and water to grow nice and strong. Keep your pots on a sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse or cold frame to give them all the help they need to grow. If you are sowing your seedlings on a windowsill, turn the pots around a little bit each day - this encourages the little shoots to grow upright and not just towards the window.

  • Always keep your soil moist. When watering your pots, add the water a little at a time until the water has soaked into the soil. Using a spray bottle to water your seedlings is an excellent way to keep your plants happy and hydrated

  • When planting out your seedlings- the entire starter pot can be placed into some peat free multi-purpose compost. The starter pots are eco-friendly and completely biodegradable.

  • Adding a layer of mulch to the base of your plants, such as bark chips, helps the soil to retain moisture.

“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.”
