Growing Instructions: Brussel Sprouts

Organic Brussel Sprouts

The Brussel Sprout, high in nutrients and rich in antioxidants, the Groninger variety is a 2nd early favourite producing the award winning sweet compact sprout. 

Best sown outdoors: Early Spring around March.


Best planted out: Late April – June


Harvest:
90 days after sowing

Instructions 

  • Soak two of the coir pellets in a bowl with water for approximately 5 minutes until they have expanded.

  • Remove the coir pellets from the water and then gently squeeze them to remove the excess water.

  • Crumble the coir pellets into your pot, gently press down the pellet leaving a 1cm gap from the top of your pot.

  • Your pot is not ready for you to Sow your seeds, lightly cover with 1 cm of soil. 

  • Write the name of your plant on the flat wooden sticks. Then carefully slide the stick into the soil, by the edge of your pot. Keep the soil moist. Checking daily.

  • When your seedlings are 5 cm tall, you can then transfer your seedlings to individual pots and plant out.  Plant the seedlings 60-90 cm apart, keeping the rows 60-90 cm apart. Your seedlings will need to harden off, acclimatize once the risk of frost has passed.

Top Tips:

Grow in a location where cabbage family members have not grown for at least 1 year.  The ‘Groninger’ variety of Brussel Sprout prefers a sunny location, with rich and well-drained soil conditions. To Harvest pick from the bottom of the plant towards the top as the sprouts mature.
